Q What sort of products do you produce and what services do you provide?
A The services we provide are varied, Presswork, Sheet Metal Work, Holloware, Tube Manipulation, Galvanising, Fabrication and Welded Assembly are our core activities.
We produce a range of products for customers in each of these activities, ranging from delicate pressings for aerospace applications to heavier items such as back plates for brake shoes through to litter bin liners and a wide range of holloware as well as trollies for the horticulture market and garden centres.
Q Can you paint, powder coat or zinc plate components?
A Yes. At Bird Stevens we use reliable sub-contractors for all your finishing requirements, we also galvanise on-site.
Q Do you process pre-coated material?
A Yes. At present we process various pre-coated materials, for example galvanised and zinc coated materials are used for the production of litter bin liners.
Q Our company is continuously looking to improve our products, how could Bird Stevens help develop existing products?
A At Bird Stevens we have a long history of working with customers to reduce cost on products, develop and modernise designs, as well as producing completely new products.
Q We have an idea for a product but not the technical knowledge to create the product, can you help?
A Yes. Our technical expertise and experience at Bird Stevens is second-to-none. A comprehensive team of design, production and quality engineers can take your project from initial concept to the finished product.
Q Do you meet any recognised quality standards?
A Yes. We are accredited to quality standard ISO 9001:2008, our operating procedures are compliant with TS16949.
Q What is the capacity of the presses?
A We have a vast range of press machinery from hand presses up to 500 ton presses with a maximum bed size of 2.15m x 1.64m (84" x 64").
Q Do you have any welding facilities?
A Yes. We have varied welding facilities including MIG, TIG, Gas Spot, Seam and Projection welding units plus some semi-automated machines as well as numerous manual welding stations.

Q Do you produce standard size bases for liners, if so what sizes?
A A wide range of sizes are available. For example litter bin liners range from 128mm (5") up to 450mm (18") diameter, these bases can be used on a variety of different liners dependent on customer requirements
Q I have looked through the website and I am still unsure whether you have the capacity to manufacture my product, how do I find out?
A We strongly believe in communicating face-to-face with all of our customers. Get in touch with us and we will arrange an informal chat, you can meet the team and see the capacity of our operating facilities first hand
Q What sort of material can you use?
A We specialise in using Steel and Pre-Coated and have expertise using both Brass and Aluminium or any permutation of these materials.
Q What is the standard lead time?
A We try to work on a one month rolling basis, buying and producing within 4 weeks. Many of our customers have schedules on an on-going basis and we can operate Kanban systems specified to customer requirements which enables them to turn over their stock quickly.
Q Is the galvanising process mechanical or by hand and what is the largest size you can galvanise?
A We only galvanise by hand at Bird Stevens, as a guide; we currently galvanise products just under 15Kg as the heaviest and around 1.84m (6ft) in length as our longest. There is potential to take care of all your galvanising needs, if not in-house we use reputable sub-contractors for larger products.
Q How can you reasassure me that Bird Stevens will be able to produce what we require?
A For almost 100 years, we have been successfully working alongside companies, just like yours.

Q We operate in a very small and unique industry. How can we be sure that you will understand our requirements?
A We believe one of our strengths is the close relationship we have with customers from a variety of industry sectors, including the commercial automotive through to utility metering sectors. We also produce and market our own brand of Horticultural equipment plus specific products for the game bird and poultry market.
